Most of us will take the positive over the negative, any time. I’m willing to bet that if we pause to reflect over the past year, we’d find many more positives than negatives in 2022.

The last two plus years have been rocky, but I’ve noted a recent shift. More smiles, less talk of unpleasantries, more effort to focus on the good stuff. People are spending time on what they love to do, on who they love to do it with, and on discovering new paths that bring joy.

In the Southern California neighborhood where I live, residents gather annually for a BBQ. Over the last twenty years, there’s been foot dragging when it comes to attendance, and, typically, the same neighbors always show up. The 2022 BBQ was different. For one, I attended. In the past, I’ve either not had the time to go or fallen squarely into the foot dragging category. Last month, more than double the usual number of neighbors attended. The whole vibe was elevated. Words like “gratitude” and “thankful” were plentiful. Everyone seemed kinder and more pleasant. Even the food tasted better. Is it possible that more of us are choosing to seek out the good, the positive, the constructive, and the simple enjoyments in life?

In the Sleuths & Sidekicks world, we’ve been the recipients of many positives ever since we banded together in August, 2020. We consistently support each other and have come upon so many novel and creative ways to promote our books. For the first time this past summer, we led a writing workshop in Connecticut (not bad, since none of us live in that fair state), virtually, and found it to be a great success. We not only got personal satisfaction from sharing our knowledge with other writers, but the attendees seemed equally happy and appreciative. Can’t get better than that…except that we have more of the same to look forward to!

Going into 2023, may we find the positives and the silver linings in all situations and happily watch them grow.
